Strella alternatives in three lines

  • Strella recruits from a global panel of over 8 million participants, and it can import a team's own participant list, matched by a custom ID such as an employee ID.
  • Outset lists 40+ interview languages and Listen Labs 120+. Strella's own count is 46+.
  • A team pays participants' incentives through Strella itself, and Outset handles them through panel partners.

The alternatives, one by one

Pulse

Best for Teams that buy sample as well as run studies

A study on Pulse, the AI-moderated research platform, starts from a team's brief, and Pulse builds the interview from it. Pulse finds participants who fit the profile in that brief, or contacts a team's own customers from a list the team uploads, with fraud checks on each one.

Strengths

  • Enterprise data residency options
  • Owner, Admin and Member roles

Verdict Strella records its participants on audio, video or screen, as the researcher sets. Pulse also runs interviews as typed chat, for people who would rather type than talk; Outset, Listen Labs and Conveo hold text interviews too.

Where another tool fits A program that measures its digital experience against industry benchmarks is better served by UserTesting, whose QXscore is a standard score combining attitudinal and behavioral metrics. Pulse puts its weight on the conversation, with a moderator that follows each answer.

Listen Labs

Best for Brand tracking beside concept work

Listen Labs' AI moderator holds video and voice interviews, probing and adapting as the conversation goes, and tags each interview automatically as analysis runs in real time. Its studies take in concept, creative and message testing, prototype work and usability tests with screen sharing.

Strengths

  • Emotion detected in tone, facial expression and wording
  • Each quote and theme linked to its interview

Verdict Strella recruits B2B, B2C and anything in between. Listen Labs' B2B panel partners include NewtonX, which Outset also lists among its panels.

Outset

Best for Research spread across many panels

Outset screens participants with custom logic and runs a fraud detection tool, with automatic re-recruitment for low-quality interviews. Its AI moderator takes in the facial reactions of the people it talks to.

Strengths

  • Data-segregated team workspaces
  • Participants join anonymously, with no account

Verdict Strella's panel partners are Respondent.io and User Interviews. Outset's 25+ panel integrations take in both and add Dynata, Prolific and GMO Research, for a brief that needs one of those panels.

Conveo

Best for Packaging, claims and ad tests

Conveo's AI moderator interviews participants by video, voice or text, and its research experts guide a team's methodology. Search runs across transcripts, quotes and themes, and every chart links back to the verbatims behind it.

Strengths

  • Emotion cues from face, voice and words
  • Surveys combined with AI follow-up probes
  • Stakeholder-ready reports, slides and quote reels

Verdict Conveo can invite a team's own participants with a QR code as well as a CSV upload or a public link, which puts a study invitation on anything printed.

UserTesting

Best for Product teams that want surveys and task tests in one tool

UserTesting pairs its Contributor Network of real users around the world with surveys, interaction tests and Live Conversation, its moderated video interviews. AI Moderation, in limited early access, asks follow-up questions inside Think Out Loud tests, and Insights Hub keeps collaborative reports in one place.

Strengths

  • AI fraud flags sent for human review
  • Integrations with Jira, Miro and Teams

Verdict Strella's usability testing is AI-powered. UserTesting's rests on unmoderated interaction tests and think-aloud tests, and its simple tests can start returning results in as little as an hour.

How we evaluated

We compared what each tool's own product, pricing and security pages state against the criteria below. Every fact in the table above links to the page it came from, with the date it was read.

  • Usability depth. How far the tool goes on task-based testing, from screen sharing and session recording to tracking where users click.
  • Moderation options. Whether sessions can be moderated by AI, by a live researcher, or by either, inside the same tool.
  • Recruiting and incentives. Where participants come from, how they are screened, and who pays them.
  • Counting and trending. Whether surveys and repeated tracking questions can run beside the interviews.
  • Language coverage. How many languages each vendor states for its interviews.

Which one to choose

  • If a security review asks for ISO 27001, choose Conveo, which holds ISO 27001:2022; Listen Labs and UserTesting state ISO 27001 as well.
  • If the research should end up in a Dovetail workspace the team already keeps, choose Outset, which lists Dovetail among its integrations.
  • If features should be ranked with MaxDiff and each choice explained, choose Listen Labs, whose MaxDiff ranking comes with AI follow-ups, or Conveo, whose AI-moderated MaxDiff backs every score with the reasons behind it.

Reasons Strella users look at Pulse

Single sign-on through SAML or OIDC

Pulse offers SAML and OIDC single sign-on, on request, on the enterprise plan, so a company's staff sign in through the identity provider it already runs. Outset, Conveo, UserTesting and Listen Labs offer single sign-on as well.

Focus groups beside the interviews

Pulse runs focus groups and multi-participant sessions beside its interviews, for a question a team wants customers to argue through together. Among the tools on this page, UserTesting runs online focus groups too, through its Invite Network.

Interviews by phone call or WhatsApp

Pulse also holds interviews over a phone call or on WhatsApp, which suits the customers a team already reaches on their phones, such as the account holders a service line calls or the shoppers a brand messages.
