Last reviewed . Reviewed every quarter.

The Conveo shortlist in brief

  • Conveo tests concepts, packs, claims and ads in AI-moderated interviews. Listen Labs, Outset, Echovane and Entropik all bring stimuli into their interviews too, and they part on recruiting, privacy and what they read beyond words.
  • Conveo's always-on programs span dozens of markets, and a participant takes its interview from a link, on their own schedule, at any hour.
  • Outset gets interviews back within hours, Echovane moves from brief to analyzed insights within hours, Entropik gives 48 hours for structured insights and Listen Labs 24.

The alternatives, one by one

Pulse

Best for Consumer and brand teams that run their own fieldwork

Every participant that Pulse, the AI-moderated research platform, recruits for a study goes through a fraud check, and Pulse handles the incentives they are owed, so a consumer study's sample comes to the team checked and paid.

Strengths

  • Owner, Admin and Member roles for the research team
  • Enterprise sign-in through SAML or OIDC, on request

Verdict Conveo recruits for its own studies through panel partners such as Norstat, Bilendi, Sago and Rakuten. Pulse also sells sample by itself, with no study attached, for a team that buys sample for surveys it runs elsewhere.

Where another tool fits Where a pack or ad test depends on eye gaze tracking, Entropik is the better pick on this list, since it tracks gaze alongside its facial and voice emotion AI. Pulse is made for hearing the reasons behind a reaction, asked and followed up in conversation.

Listen Labs

Best for B2B studies sourced through NewtonX

Listen Labs holds interviews in 120+ languages and draws on a network of 50M+ participants for its studies. Each theme, quote and probe links to the interview where it was said, so a finding can be checked at its source.

Strengths

  • ISO 27001:2022 certification
  • Tremendous payouts for self-recruited participants

Verdict For a team counting on every interview in a small sample, Listen Labs' Quality Guard flags a low-quality participant and recruits a replacement. Outset, also on this list, re-recruits automatically when an interview is low quality.

Outset

Best for Persona and market-strategy work

Outset's AI interviewer holds video and voice-to-voice conversations and reads facial expressions and tone as they go. Optional support models take on setup and research tasks when a team would like a hand with its studies.

Strengths

  • Custom screeners with advanced logic
  • HIPAA compliant

Verdict Conveo keeps past studies in a research library it can query across projects. Outset lists an integration with Dovetail, for teams that keep their research there.

Echovane

Best for Long-form interviews

Echovane interviews over video or voice, and its Chat with Data feature answers plain-language questions across the interviews a team has run. Ethnography, concept and ad testing are on its study list, and results come back through a client dashboard and PowerPoint reports, with video clips and insight reels.

Strengths

  • Facial micro-expressions decoded in real time
  • Granular team permissions

Verdict Echovane recruits for its studies from a respondent network it runs itself, 20M+ people strong. Listen Labs, also on this list, runs one too, at 50M+.

Entropik

Best for Shopper, packaging and ad testing

Entropik's AI Moderator, Mira, probes deeper or simplifies a question as the conversation needs, and it works in 70+ languages. Its Insights Hub keeps a searchable repository across a team's research, and Entropik gives its panel reach as 103M+ across 120 countries.

Strengths

  • Highlight clips ready as a session ends
  • Facial images not tied to personal data

Verdict Conveo's usability sessions are AI-moderated and built around tasks. Entropik also runs unmoderated usability tests, for a UX team that wants some participants to work through a design alone.

How we evaluated

We compared what each tool's own product, pricing and security pages state against the criteria below. Every fact in the table above links to the page it came from, with the date it was read.

  • Consumer study range. Which consumer studies the tool runs, from ethnography and U&A to shopper, packaging, concept and creative work.
  • Participant channels. The ways a participant can answer, from voice and video to text chat, phone calls and messaging apps.
  • Emotion and gaze. Whether reactions are measured from face, voice or eye movement as well as from words.
  • Panel access. Whose panel supplies participants, how many markets it reaches, and whether your own list can be used.
  • Numbers next to the interviews. Whether surveys or ranking exercises such as MaxDiff can run beside the qualitative work.

Which one to choose

  • If the team already recruits experts through ProSapient or Third Bridge, choose Outset, whose 25+ panel integrations include both.
  • If the guide should be drafted around the stimuli themselves, choose Entropik, whose AI builds a guide around the stimuli you supply, or takes one you upload.
  • If the team wants a free monthly allowance for AI-moderated interviews of its own, choose Entropik, whose free plan covers 100 responses every month, in up to 3 studies.

Pulse for consumer and brand studies

A researcher in the moderator's seat

Conveo moderates its voice and video interviews with AI. On Pulse, an interview can stay with the AI moderator or go to a live human one, as a session on Entropik can, for a consumer topic that calls for a researcher's own judgment.

A pack or campaign in a new market

Pulse interviews can run in 240+ languages, enabled on request, so a brand team taking a pack or a campaign into a new market can hear shoppers in the language they buy in.
