When to choose Medallia

Medallia prices a feedback program by Experience Data Records, in annual tiers that include unlimited users and all analytics with no per-channel charge, which suits a program meant to reach every team in a large company.

Agile Research and Medallia Video carry the program into research. Agile Research runs surveys in 80+ languages, concept tests, and MaxDiff and conjoint studies, drawing on millions of respondents through a third-party panel, targeted on dozens of demographic and behavioral criteria, and it connects to internal applications through an API, for teams that want results in their own systems. Medallia Video uploads and transcribes recordings of focus groups and interviews, Zoom sessions among them through its connector, and records in Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge and on iOS and Android.

Pulse interviews let each customer tell a journey from start to finish, from signing up through a first bill to renewal. Each customer answers by voice or video, on a phone or laptop, on their own schedule, and customers the team already reaches by phone or on WhatsApp can be interviewed there too. Every participant hears the same well-formed questions from one guide, so accounts of the same stage can be compared across customers.

Moving from Medallia to Pulse

  1. Turn a Research Services project into a brief. Projects the team ran with Medallia's Research Services, full service or with DIY support, each set out to learn about a group of customers. Turn the next one into a Pulse brief that names the question it must answer, the stage of the journey it concerns, the customers to hear from and a screener, and Pulse builds the interview.
  2. List the customers the program already invites. Medallia invites a company's known customers to give feedback by email or SMS, so the people behind the feedback on a stage of the journey are already known. List those who consented to follow-up, and upload the list to Pulse as the people the first brief will interview.
  3. Hear from people the program never reached. Some people a CX team needs to hear never enter the program's records, such as people who have never been customers. Medallia's Agile Research can reach people like them too, through its third-party panel. To interview them on Pulse, describe them as a profile in a second brief; Pulse recruits participants who fit it, each checked for fraud.
  4. Read the first interviews beside the program. Each interview reaches the team as a full transcript with its recording while the rest of the study is still running. CX analysts can read them beside the week's Medallia feedback on the same stage of the journey and mark the interviews that explain a pattern in it, ready to quote at the program's next review.

Medallia Video and Insights Assistant, set beside Pulse

Most of the overlap sits in Medallia Video, which reads topics, themes and sentiment from transcripts and facial emotion from recordings. Pulse sorts its themes by what people said, with each theme's supporting quotes beside it, and Pulse's video insights catch emotion and behavior on screen wherever an interview runs on video.

Medallia introduced Insights Assistant, which takes plain-language questions, in February 2026. Questions put to a Pulse study are answered from that study's interviews alone, so an answer about one stage of the journey rests on the customers the team chose to interview about it, whether they came from the program's list or were recruited to a profile.

What a CX program gets on each side

Where past research lives

Medallia Video keeps a centralized library of video assets. Pulse keeps each study's findings, searchable, in one repository, so a CX lead can look up the themes an earlier study found before commissioning the next one on the same part of the journey.

Report links and exported files

Medallia's Agile Research sends automated report links and keeps dashboards updated in real time. Pulse's findings go out as PDF, PowerPoint, CSV, Excel or Word files, or into Notion and Confluence through MCP, for business owners who read their reports outside the research tool.

Handling personal data

Medallia masks personal data according to each user's access rights, and can purge it from its systems. On Pulse, personal data is redacted from the interview transcripts that CX analysts read and quote from.

Showreels and highlight clips

Medallia Video builds showreels from the recordings it holds. Pulse makes highlight reels and clips from its interviews, so a CX review can play the moment a customer explains what went wrong.

User roles and sign-in

Medallia Video sets each user up as a Customer Admin, Channel Admin, Pro or Standard user, with SAML for sign-in. On Pulse, each person in a workspace is an Owner, Admin or Member, and single sign-on over SAML or OIDC can be set up on request for enterprise-plan customers.
